Lost Wax Investment Castings
The MetalTek Advantage
Our concurrent engineering services lead to the manufacture of net-shaped products that require little or no post-production processing. The broad range of materials that we pour and continue to develop help you get both the geometry and mechanical properties that you need for your demanding application for investment castings.
MetalTek has particular expertise in producing large investment castings—up to 600# pour weight, and 300# net weight.
Modern facilities and processes feature tightly managed wax pattern design and creation, robotic ceramic shell manufacture, highly controlled alloy chemistries, extensive non-destructive evaluation, and part traceability throughout the process.

A heavy duty robotic dipper produces
ceramic shells for all castings, including
extra large parts. |
A pre-heated shell is prepared
and positioned for the pour. |
Molten metal is poured into
the pre-heated mold shell. After
cooling the shell breaks away. |
Manufacturing Process
Lost Wax Investment Casting using lost wax is a multi-step process. A wax pattern of the finished part is (A) created and (B) mounted onto a wax tree. The tree is (C) alternately dipped into a slurry and sprinkled with stucco material until a thick shell is created. An autoclave (D) melts the wax out of the shell, leaving a void. Molten metal is (E) poured into the shell taking the place of the melted wax. The metal solidifies and (F) the fragile shell is broken away. After trimming the gating material, the finished part remains.
