A recent customer was using C863 manganese gear blanks for their offshore drilling equipment and needed higher strength coupled with corrosion resistance. MetalTek’s alloy expertise and experience pouring C863 allowed us to tweak the alloy and control melt and pour processes to certify materials to the higher yield strength required by our customer. To achieve the higher standard, MetalTek exercised exceptionally stringent metallurgical control and innovative in processing testing to regulate each heat of metal.
These efforts paid off through reduced scrap, rework, and material - saving time and cost, and resulted in the superior product the customer needed.
