Heat resistant alloys, corrosion resistant alloys, and the capability to produce large size rolls and a variety of shaft and trunnion designs all contribute to MetalTek International’s position as a leading provider of cast product for metalworking markets worldwide.
We can provide a wide variety of overall sizes of centrifugally cast product. We pour alloys especially developed for severe abrasion or wear applications. MetalTek has become a significant provider of forming dies, both for round centrifugally-based parts, and irregular shaped sand-based parts.
The MetalTek Team provides the technical, manufacturing and sales know how to meet your needs:
Solution—Galvanizing conductor roll alloy development
Electro-Galvanizing provides zinc-steel adhesion through an atomic bonding process, while Hot Dip galvanizing creates a metallurgical bond. The Electro-Galvanizing process may use rolled steel and welded fabrication or cast cylindrical conductor rolls to pass the steel through the galvanizing bath. MetalTek devised proprietary alloys for this demanding application, and provides customers around the world, in the U.S., Japan, Korea, and China in this application.
Solution—Tunnel furnace rolls
In a steel mill, a Tunnel Furnace maintains the temperature of hot steel slabs as they move from the caster to the mill. Preventing scale buildup through this furnace is an important feature of the process. Working with a major steel company, MetalTek added machining of four “tires” in the roll body to prevent scale pickup on the roll as slabs move through the furnace. The result was higher efficiency and reduced maintenance in the mill.
Solution— Furnace riders redesign
In the steel making process, Furnace Riders carry steel slab to the reheat furnace. The critical application requires high temperature and oxidation resistance, heat strength, and a design and material that avoids abrasion to the slab. Working with a major steel maker, our Carondelet group revised the design geometry of the Furnace Riders to reduce wear. The result was a dramatic improvement in Rider life, reduced oxidation, and significant cost savings.
