Solution—Iron ore grate system
In an iron ore processing operation, iron ore pellets are carried on a grate-like “blanket” through the preheater to the furnace. This is a very abrasive environment and each component in the assembly is regularly reviewed for wear to attain optimum blanket life. Working with a major steel producer, MetalTek has developed wear resistant alloys and participated in design efforts resulting in a tripling of the life of the conveyor blanket.
Solution—Cement plant kiln nozzle
Cement production is a high heat, energy intensive process that turns limestone, shale, or clay into cement. The Furnace in cement plant burns non-traditional fuels such as tires and other waste materials. The nozzle in the kiln for this application has traditionally been a very expensive, highly-machined fabricated part. MetalTek tooled and produced a single casting for this environment that eliminated much additional part processing, and saved the customer $10,000 per part.
