Fabrications used in fusion research at the DOE were abandoned because they could not deliver the needed dimensional stability. Investment castings were the desired method of manufacture, but the parts are quite large. While very challenging because of its large size, MetalTek was able to produce the huge investment castings, and provided dimensional consistency that fabrications could not to support the ongoing research.
