Alloy Development

Bearium In Steel Mill - Steel mill customers have discovered that the use of Bearium in low-speed pivoting bushing applications where lubrication is difficult can significantly reduce wear and extend service life by up to 50%.

Bearium On Shuttle Crawler - Proprietary Bearium product on Space Shuttle Crawler bushings have prevented catastrophic load failures experienced in early crawler designs.

Bi-Metal Canister Development For Nuclear - Bi-metal designs including an inner core of aluminum bronze and outer shell of pure copper provided the strength and environment protection for developmental container designs.

Continuous Cast In Deicer Application - The net shaping of components using continuous casting has helped customers avoid expensive machining and milling cost, even for smaller parts.

Fan Blade Tooling Design - When a turbine customer's tool source went out of business, MetalTek leveraged our ability to produce patterns in-house, pour super alloys, and manage a tight time line to avoid production interruption.

Hastelloy Alloy Development - A valve customer's desire to move into new markets was limited by their inability to find a foundry to co-develop a special alloy, until they came to MetalTek.

Memorial Benches - Designers of the benches for the Pentagon Memorial came to MetalTek for help in alloy selection and product design for a memorial built to "last a lifetime".

Petrochemical Technologies - Leveraging experience in a comparable environment but different industry, MetalTek recommended alloys that solved a customer carburization problem.

Powerplant Impellers - MetalTek has produced impeller components in next generation duplex and super austenitic stainless steels for high corrosion and brackish water environments.

Shaft Sleeves - Early alloy development and homogeneous grain structure have established MetalTek as the world's leading producer of naval shaft sleeves.

Sigma Blades - By managing sources of part distortion in the manufacturing process and developing a special alloy, MetalTek was able to provide a mixer manufacturer with large components that would fit into an especially tight tolerance envelope.

Stellarator Casting - Proprietary alloys developed for extreme cryogenic temperatures of 77°K helped make castings for the fusion research Stellarator possible.

Tunner Support Arm - MetalTek produced radiographic quality box-beam support components up to 14' long in alloy 17-4 for the military's Tunner program to reduce weight in a heavy cargo application.

Winch Drum Assembly - When a defense customer changed to non-asbestos linings for a brake application, MetalTek developed a Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) material that reduced operating cost by 90%.
