Rotating parts in turbines used for hydro-electric power generation are a difficult, extreme wear application. Expensive high alloy rings, up to 15’ in diameter or even more, are regularly replaced due to high wear rates. Mating parts that do not fit exactly or wear down at different rates contribute to accelerated deterioration over time. Often this wear is discovered during routine turbine maintenance requiring emergency product replacement. MetalTek supplies large rings with fine parallel machined grooves in the ring I.D. Those grooves afford a much better fit between mating part surfaces. The better fit reduces wear, extends product life, and helps prevent unexpected downtime and unplanned maintenance.
