Alloy Grade UNS: CF8M Stainless Steel  Alloy

  • Overview

CF8M / 316 stainless steel is a modification of 304 stainless steel with the addition of 2.0% to 3.0% molybdenum to provide improved resistance to reducing corrosives and pitting attack by chlorides as found in seawater. Careful balance of the chemical composition strengthens this alloy to levels well above most specifications. This alloy has good machinability and weldability but requires re-annealing after welding to restore maximum corrosion resistance.

  • Typical Uses

Bearings, chemical and food processing, furnace fixtures, heat exchangers, piping, pressure vessels, pulp/paper components, pump and valve components, nuclear flow control, sink rolls, and marine components.
